Victorian Fair 

Saturday & Sunday, April 28 & 29, 2018 

• 1 to 5 p.m. both days

• Free—but bring spending money for food and shopping

• Victorian dress is encouraged!

• No pets allowed. Only certified service animals are permitted.

What was it like to live in Victorian-era Los Angeles, and what are we still learning about the period today?
Come and find out at the Homestead's annual Victorian Fair. 

Diversions & delights include:

- Live music by the Philadelphia Quadrille Band with dance demonstrations & lessons by the Yesteryears Dancers & Renée Camus & Dancers.

- Pop-up presentations by Dr. Malatesta, the notorious snake oil salesman of the far west!

- Pianist Dennis Aguilar in La Casa Nueva, our 1920s mansion.

- Costumer Natalie Meyer's Victorian undergarments fashion shows & dress-up rack.

- Ernest Miller of Rancho La Merced Provisions on the triumphs & challenges of food preservation during the Victorian era.

- Demonstrations by the Society for Calligraphy, the Freeway Lace Guild, & the Friendship Square Quilt Guild.

- Pie eating contests!

- High-wheel bike demos & exhibit.

- Making adobe bricks, rope, & a variety of crafts.

- Shopping handmade & vintage wares from a selection of merchants & making tussie mussie bouquets.

- Food trucks! Bakerytruck, The Greasy Wiener, Ragin Cajun On Wheels & Piaggio on Wheels.

- Organizations in your community & beyond featuring the Kizh Nation: Gabrieleño Band of Mission Indians, Rancho Los Alamitos Historic Ranch & Gardens, Rancho Los Cerritos, Heritage Square Museum, Grier Musser Museum, Hsi Lai Temple, La Puente Valley Historical Organization & the Drum Barracks Civil War Museum.


Special to Saturday, April 28:

- Performances by the Hsi Lai Temple's Youth Orchestra at 2:15 & 4:15 p.m.

- Tales from Los Angeles’ City Cemetery, Finding Lulu & Annie Jenkins: A Cold Case Revisited by Sara Dietler & Monica Strauss

at 1:30 & 2:30 p.m.

- Talks about Victorian death & mourning by Sarah Chavez of The Order of the Good Death at 3:30 & 4:30 p.m.


Special to Sunday, April 29:

- Misty Lee reveals the tricks of Victorian Spiritualists at 1:30, 2:30, 3:30, & 4:30 p.m.

- Talks about Sherlock Holmes and the life of Victorian doctors by staff from the Southern California Medical Museum at 1:30 and 3:30 p.m.

- Performances by the Workman High School Dancing Lobos at 1:30 & 3:45 p.m.
