Get a special behind-the-scenes look into the museum's collection of artifacts with members of the Homestead staff. Visit various storage areas and follow the life of objects from when they are acquired to where they are stored and later displayed.

Hour-long tours are free, but space on each tour is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Behind-the-Scenes Tours

What's in the basement, you ask? This tour will show you! See the basements and other places that are seldom seen by the general public.

Beyond the Grave Tours 

Saturday & Sunday, October 25 & 26
• 4, 4:30, 5, 5:30, & 6 p.m.
• $5 for adults; $3 for students & seniors (55+); reservations recommended

American attitudes toward death and memorialization changed dramatically from the 1840s through the 1920s. Learn about these changes as experienced by the Workman and Temple families as you tour the historic site and visit with costumed living history characters.

Space on each tour is limited and we strongly recommend that you make a reservation. Tickets go on sale September 13.

Holiday Living History Tours

Saturday & Sunday, December 13 & 14
• Tours depart every 30 minutes from 1 to 5 p.m.
• $5 for adults; $3 for seniors, students, and children (children under 2 are free); reservations recommended

Learn about how the celebration of Christmas changed from the 1840s through the 1920s as you tour the museum's decorated historic houses. Along the way, you'll hear from a costumed living history character who will give you a feel for days gone by. Sweet treats will be served in the Gallery following each tour.
